Reflexive Pronouns

 

 

Los pronombres reflexivos se usan cuando el sujeto y el complemento del verbo son lo mismo. El sujeto hace la acción a sí mismo. En inglés no se utilizan los verbos reflexivos tanto como en español.

Myself: Yo mismo, a mí.

I’ll do the fire escape plan myself. = (Haré el plan de emergencia contra incendios yo mismo).

Yourself: tú mismo, usted mismo.

Choose the doors and windows yourself. = (Selecciona las ventanas y puertas tú mismo).

Himself: él mismo, a sí mismo.

Be careful! Don’t burn yourself. = (Ten cuidado! No te quemes.)

Herself: ella misma, a sí misma.

She checked the smoke detectors herself. = (Revisó los detectores de humo ella misma).

Itself: sí mismo.

The battery recharges itself. = (La batería se recarga a sí misma).

 

 

Ourselves: nosotros mismos.

We did it ourselves. = (Lo hicimos nosotros mismos).

Yourselves: ustedes mismos.

Did you make the plan yourselves? = (¿Hicieron el plan ustedes mismos?)

Themselves: ellos mismos.

They mistakenly were calling themselves. = (Ellos se estaban llamando a ellos mismos equivocadamente.)

Los pronombres reflexivos o "reflexive pronouns" se usan cuando el sujeto y el complemento del verbo son lo mismo

Los pronombres reflexivos son usando para:

Enfatizar el sentido de la frase (para realzar al sujeto que realiza la acción por “sí mismo”).

• I wrote this book myself. = (Yo mismo escribí este libro).

• The chairman himself, started the meeting. = (El presidente en persona comenzó la reunión).

Conjuntamente con “by” expresan la idea de que algo se hizo sin ayuda. I wrote this book by myself. (Escribí este libro yo solo.)

Ejemplos del uso de los pronombres reflexivos:

• I cut myself with a knife. (Me corté con un cuchillo.)

• You have not been yourself lately. (No has sido tú mismo últimamente.)

• He himself prepared dinner. (Él mismo preparó la cena.)

• She burned herself while cooking. (Ella se quemó mientras cocinaba.)

• The duck threw itself into the water. (El pato se arrojó al agua.)

• We can finish the project ourselves. (Podemos terminar el proyecto nosotros mismos.)

• You all can consider yourselves lucky to be here. (Todos ustedes pueden considerarse afortunados de estar aquí.)

• The boys bought themselves a dog. (Los chicos se compraron un perro.)
